Beauty Talk: Women's History Month

In honor of Womens History Month, we at Illusions Cosmetics would love to highlight a few women in the entertainment business. If you know of any woman that you would like to highlight, please let us know. Let's remember to always uplift one another. The first woman that we would like to highlight is actress Terri J. Vaughn. Read below the conversation that we shared with Terri.

BT: Tell us about yourself and how you got started in the entertaining business.
TV: My name is Terri J. Vaughn, I got my first big break as Lovita on The Steve Harvey Show. I started in this business while attending college. I was actually going to school for advertising, but participated in a Miss Black California pageant, which I lost, but was asked to do my first acting job in a touring play titled, "Tellin' It Like It Tiz," by one of the judges.

BT: Tell us what you are working on now.
TV: I'm expanding my role on Meet the Browns to a series regular. I'm also promoting my first film project under my production company, Nina Holiday Entertainment, "Angels Can't Help But Laugh." A documentary that celebrates the voices of 25 black actresses in Hollywood. Continuing my work with at-risk girls through my non-profit, Take Wings Foundation. And hopefully starting on a new film project this summer produced under Nina Holiday Entertainment.

BT: How important is it to you that women are celebrated in Entertainment and or any other profession?

TV: Extremely! Especially women of color. We are far too often overlooked, as if we're not beautiful enough, talented enough, smart enough, and just not relevant enough to be recognized for our huge contributions to this world.

BT: If you could contribute to the advancement of women, what would you do?

TV: I would give women the courage to trust and follow their instincts. We second guess ourselves so much. It's just a lack of confidence in ourselves.

BT: What is Beauty to you?

TV: Being so confident in who you are from the inside out, that you are able to recognize and compliment the inside and outside beauty of others.

Beauty Tip

When applying foundation, always match your base to your neck and any visible areas of your decollete. Matching foundation to your face will amost always cause there to be a difference in the color of your face and neck. This is a 'NO-NO', but very common with women of color.

Detailed below is an article that was recently included in the Illusions Cosmetics Newsletter.
When choosing makeup products, some are often confused about which foundation product to use. Hopefully the following glossary of foundation terms will help to clear things up.

Foundation formulations:

1) Tinted Moisturizer - A light textured moisturizer with a hint of color. It's intent is to add moisture to the skin while providing it with very light coverage. It is great for any skin type. It can be applied with a sponge or with your fingers as you would normally apply moisturizer.

2) Liquid - A liquid base formula used to apply coverage to the face. It gives a light to medium coverage. Based on the formula of the liquid foundation (oil free or moisturizing) it can be used on all skin types. It may be applied with your fingers, a sponge, or a foundation brush.

3) Cream - A cream based formula used to provide a full coverage to the skin. It is mainly suited for people with dryer skin types or those needing extra coverage. Its best applied with a sponge or foundation brush.

4) Stick - A stick foundation is a cream based formula in a stick packaging. Your personal foundation may be swiped onto the face directly from the stick. Maybe used on all skin types depending on the formula.

5) Cream to Powder - A cream based formula that transforms into a velvety powder finish when it makes contact with the skin. Most formulas are buildable and gives a light to full coverage.
