SPRING 2015 Bridal Beauty Tips

Spring 2015 Bridal Beauty Tips

Bridal season is rapidly approaching. Illusions Cosmetics wants to help you create a beautiful makeup look by sharing a few Bridal makeup tips.  Following these tips will help you to create makeup looks that you will treasure on your wedding day and years to come in your wedding video and photos.  Your skin should be healthy and refreshed.  All facial waxing (brows, lip, chin) should be done at least two weeks before the big day.  Only minor cleanup should be done, if necessary, on the day of the wedding.   Cheek color should be very subtle with shades of peach and pinks.   Pastels and shades of caramels and browns can be used on the eyes for a soft look.   Pinks, corals, reds, and wines should be used to give the lips a pop of color.  Your wedding look should not look like your everyday makeup look.  There should definitely be a difference in what you apply and how much you apply.  Apply enough foundation to give you the proper coverage for your photos.  The remaining tips are more suggestions on making your big day perfect.

1. Apply a makeup primer before applying foundation on your wedding day. The primer forms a barrier between your skin and the makeup and it helps the makeup stay on all day.
2. Avoid trendy eye shadow colors so that your makeup won't look dated in your wedding photos.
3. Get your makeup professionally applied.  It makes a huge difference in your photos
4. Use water proof mascara.
5. Using a charcoal, navy or mahogany eye liner will look a lot softer than black or brown liners that often have a severe look.
6. Pale lip colors will make you look washed out with a white gown; therefore try brighter lip colors on your wedding day.
7. Avoid using eye shadows with shimmer
8. Prime the eye so that eye shadow will last all day.
9. Use foundations with a yellow undertone, they create a warm, healthy appearance in photos.

10. Avoid alcohol and certain foods, the night before your wedding.  Misuse of alcohol will have you looking less than your best on your wedding day.

Women of Color Wednesdays

The Bollywood Smokey Eye:

The Smokey eye for an Indian woman is a little different than the traditional smokey eye. Bollywood is all about color and drama. To create the perfect Bollywood smokey eye, here are a few tips....

*To widen the eye, use a dark color on the outside of the eye from the lash line to the crease...use a bright color on the inside of the eye and blend into the dark color.

*Use a light shimmery color on the lid

*Line the bottom of the eye with a dark eye color

Beauty Tip Tuesday

Beauty Tip Tuesday:

To keep eye makeup from smudging and to help it last longer, consider the following tips...

1. Use an eye shadow primer to help the shadow to stick to the eye.
2. Use a cream eye shadow and set it with a powder eye shadow.
3.  Use a liquid liner, once it dries, it is harder to smudge than other types of liner.
4.  Use a Water Proof mascara...

Nail Tip of the Week

Cracked Heels....

Do not exfoliate cracked heels with a pumice stone. Please wait until your cracked heels heal and close before using a pumice to exfoliate.

Beauty Tip Tuesday

Beauty Tip Tuesday...

Removing your makeup is essential. It is important to remove your makeup every day. I suggest using a makeup remover first before following it up with a cleanser of your choice. Also, don't forget to exfoliate and moisturize!!!

Beauty Tip Tuesday:

For those of you that wear blush but don't wear foundation, try applying a liquid or creme blush instead of powder.

Beauty Tip Tuesday!!!

Puffy Eyes...

We've all asked or had clients who've asked about remedies for tired puffy eyes. Some times the question has also been combined with 'how to get rid of dark undereye circles'. We've probably offered suggestions (or have been given suggestions) similar to these....

*Apply cucumber slices over closed eyes
*Applying a cold(frozen) metal spoon over the eyes
*Apply hemorrhoid cream to the puffy undereye area
*Get more sleep
*Take iron pills
* Use concealer or foundation to cover up

I'll add a few more....

*When sleeping, elevate your head so that fluid does not settle around your eyes
*Avoid salt, which retains fluid in the body, including under the eyes
*Use Eye Creams containing Vitamin K and retinol
*Stop Smoking
*Eat properly and drink lots of water

Beauty Tip Tuesday!

Today's tip is great to remember when taking pictures, whether you are the model or the makeup artist....

When taking pictures, avoid using foundations with an SPF.  SPF in some foundations can cause you to appear "white" in photos.

Liquid and creme foundations that have a matte finish are great to use for pictures to avoid the "shiny"
 look.

Beauty Tip

Beauty Tip:

For those who love to do 'Eyes 1st' before applying foundation, here is a tip to sway you to the other side...#TeamFoundation1st:

1 - Apply foundation and concealer
2 - Do not set concealer under eyes with powder (you may set the foundation if you like)
3 - Apply eye shadow
4 - Clean up any fallout from eyeshadow
5 - Conceal under eyes again if necessary

For those who apply eye shadow first, you may think that it would be easier to just apply shadow first.  Applying foundation first makes more sense, in my opinion.  If you are dealing with time and need to get the makeup finished in a hurry, its always best to have the foundation already done.  You can always go back and make little tweaks to the eyes if necessary.  Just a thought.

Ask Illusions

Ask Illusions

We received a question a while ago and I was slow about posting it because its not beauty related.  But after receiveing the question again from someone else, I decided to go ahead and answer it here.  Those who asked the question will remain anonymous. :-)

Q: How is Janice's name pronounced?  I've heard it a couple of ways.

A: I definitely don't mind sharing with you how my sister's name is pronounced.  Her name is spelled J-A-N-I-C-E.  Most people pronounce it as if it is Janis.  But, it is actually pronounced like Janiece.  Our names rhyme...Denise and Janiece (but spelled Janice).  And while I'm on the subject of names.  Our last name is spelled T-U-N-N-E-L-L.   Most people spell it and pronounce it as Tunnel.  It rhymes with W-E-L-L or D-E-L-L .  ( Tun- nell).  I hope this helps you.  Thanks so much for asking!!

If you have questions, ask them here, on TWITTER, or email them to illusionsbeauty@gmail.com.

Get 'Lashed', BUT BE CAREFUL!!!

Eyelashes are all the craze lately.  Everyone wants fabulous lashes.  Besides growing your own, most of us like to enhance our lashes with mascara, strip lashes, individual lashes, or lash extensions.  When applying lashes or having them applied, you must be very careful around your eye area.  Here are a few tips for having Lash Extensions applied:

1) Make sure your lash extensions are applied by a licensed Esthetician or by a licensed Cosmetologist who is certified in Lash Extension training.

2) Make sure the Lash extensions are applied in a clean environment with sanitized implements.

3) Be certain that your lash extensions are applied with a medical grade adhesive.

4) Be sure that you speak to your Esthetician immediately if you have any problems or experience any irritation.

For more on Lash Extensions, be sure to check out Episode 4 of Beauty Talk ... The Web Series.  Also, catch up on the 1st three episodes.
