What Is Beauty To You?

We recently had a Spring giveaway where readers had to respond to the question, 'What is beauty to you'? Our winner was the lovely Ms. Devin Cofield from Holly Springs, NC.  This is what Devin had to say:" Beauty to me ... is what you make it!  It's what's inside and what you bring to the forefront!  Beauty isn't something that's just superficial, it's deeper than you think.  Beauty is how you carry yourselves.... how you walk... how you talk...how you treat others around you!

Thanks Devin for responding.  We hope you enjoy your Spring product giveaway!!

Beauty Tip

When applying concealer, we are always told to find a shade that is a shade lighter than our skin tone or to find a shade that matches our skin tone exactly.  I am not saying that this is bad advice, because it's not, it's just not the ONLY advice that I would give if you are trying to cover blemishes, hyperpigmentation, etc.

It is always wise to deal with the color of the imperfection first and then deal with matching the skin tone.
Ex:  If you have dark circles under the eyes (broken capillaries), the underlying color under that skin is Blue (more visible on lighter skin).  You want to cover the 'Blue' with its opposite color on the color wheel, 'Orange'.  Find a concealor with enough orange in it to cover your under eye situation and then cover that with a concealor that matches your skin tone.

* Check out Illusions Cosmetics foundation sticks.  May be used as foundation and concealer.

Beauty Tip

Now that Spring is officially here, you may have noticed some changes in your skin - a little dry skin & flakiness left over from the winter and/or a little oiliness/extra shine due to the warmer weather.  Whatever the case may be, now is the time to detox your bodies and skin for a healthier YOU!!!

TIP:
Drink more water!!  I recommend 6 glasses a day.  No more than 8 is necessary.

Beauty Talk: Womens History Month

Our second Beautiful woman that we would like to highlight is none other than the Directress herself, Ms. Crystle Roberson.  We've known Crystle since 2005 and she continues to blossom into a woman to watch out for.  Here is what Crystle had to say.

BT: Introduce yourself (tell us who you are and when & how you started your career in the entertainment business).

CR:  I'm Crystle 'Clear' Roberson and I'm a filmmaker, I write and direct films, music videos, and commercials. I graduated with a BFA in Media/Televison in 2005 and have since been working non-stop in the film industry of Atlanta. I got started in the industry by simply, working for free. I made a personal sacrifice/investment in myself to learn from professionals and show them that I was worth taking a chance on.

BT: Tell us what you are working on now (ex: your projects: The Drop, The Snack Pack, etc).
CR: Most recently I directed a film entitled "The Drop", a true story about Marcus Engel who was robbed of his eyesight, at the young age of 18, by a drunk driver. I'm so excited that this film has been accepted in The Doorpost Film Competiton, and that Denise Tunnell of Illusions Beauty was my Head Makeup Artist ;)
I'm also directing weekly live improv/comedy shows. Imagine wrangling a room full of hilarious comedic genius' who are all high off jokes! LOL, its amazing and challenging. We've enjoyed performing in Atlanta for a year now.
I'm also Directing an animated short entitled "Feel Free" and writing a full length screenplay that I hope will be my debut feature.

BT: How important is it to you that women are celebrated in Entertainment and or any other profession?
CR: When I saw people like Dianne Ashford and Angi Bones of Symmetry Entertainment working on great projects in Atlanta, the dream became realistic to me. It was important for me to see women who looked like me living their dreams happily. That added belief to my passion, not to mention genius female directors like Julie Dash,Yvette Lee Bowser, and Oscar Winner Kathryn Bigelow.
Its important because young women who are new to their profession need to see the trail that has been blazed before them... and see it CLEARLY.

BT: If you could contribute to the advancement of women, what would you do?
CR: I would keep striving to become the best woman that I can be. Start with the woman in the mirror like Mike said, lol, if we all strive for our best personally, we all win. :)

BT: What is Beauty to you?
CR: The most beautiful people I know have God shining through them.

BT: Give us any information that you would like our readers to have. Ex: website, email, contact info, etc.
CR: VOTE ON "THE DROP"! http://www.thedoorpost.com/authenticity/thedrop

Beauty Tip

Tip:
When experiencing breakout on the face, first consider your recent habits: skin care, makeup, and diet.
  1) Are you cleansing your face twice a day?
  2) Are you cleansing your makeup brushes once a week?
  3) Are you drinking plenty of water?

Beauty Talk: Women's History Month

BT: Tell us about yourself and how you got started in the entertaining business.
TV: My name is Terri J. Vaughn, I got my first big break as Lovita on The Steve Harvey Show.  I started in this business while attending college.  I was actually going to school for advertising, but participated in a Miss Black California pageant, which I lost, but was asked to do my first acting job in a touring play titled, "Tellin' It Like It Tiz," by one of the judges.

BT: Tell us what you are working on now.
TV: I'm expanding my role on Meet the Browns to a series regular.  I'm also promoting my first film project under my production company, Nina Holiday Entertainment,  "Angels Can't Help But Laugh."  A documentary that celebrates the voices of 25 black actresses in Hollywood.  Continuing my work with at-risk girls through my non-profit, Take Wings Foundation.  And hopefully starting on a new film project this summer produced under Nina Holiday Entertainment.

BT: How important is it to you that women are celebrated in Entertainment and or any other profession?
TV: Extremely!  Especially women of color.  We are far too often overlooked, as if we're not beautiful enough, talented enough, smart enough, and just not relevant enough to be recognized for our huge contributions to this world.
BT: If you could contribute to the advancement of women, what would you do?
TV:  I would give women the courage to trust and follow their instincts.  We second guess ourselves so much.  It's just a lack of confidence in ourselves.
BT: What is Beauty to you?
TV: Being so confident in who you are from the inside out, that you are able to recognize and compliment the inside and outside beauty of others.
Thank you Terri for taking the time to share with our followers.
